Can my doctor help me get a light?

In the USA, health insurers will often pay for a client to get a bright light but, unfortunately, they're not available on the NHS. If you have SAD, it's worth asking your GP if they have any available on a loan system or something similar or if they can refer you to a SAD clinic. However, there are now only two left in the country and the waiting lists are often long so many people prefer to get a light themselves and see if it works.

If you decide you're going to try light therapy, please mention it to your doctor so they are aware of what's going on. This is particularly important if you are taking anti-depressants as you may find that using bright light means you can cut down, or even come off, your medication.
